Quick Quartzforms Care Guide
Quartzforms quartz worktops are compact, non-porous and easy to clean, but they still need the correct care to keep them looking their best. The guidance below is based on Quartzforms’ own product maintenance and cleaning information.
Quartzforms recommends cleaning marks while they are still fresh, as marks left for longer may become difficult or impossible to remove.
Use neutral detergent for routine cleaning, a kitchen de-greaser for food and oil marks, and a descaling detergent for mineral or limescale marks.
Use heat mats or trivets. Direct contact with hot objects or flames can mark the surface or cause thermal shock.
Quartzforms is resistant, not indestructible
Quartzforms quartz is resistant to everyday acids, stains, scuffs, scratches and small knocks, but direct heat, flames, heavy impact, unsuitable chemicals and incorrect use can still damage the surface.
Daily Cleaning
For routine cleaning, use a cloth dampened with water and a neutral detergent. After cleaning, wipe the surface with clean water where needed and dry with a soft cloth or paper towel to help prevent smears and mineral residue.
Wipe the surface
Use a soft damp cloth to remove crumbs, dust and light everyday marks.
Use neutral detergent
For routine cleaning, use water and a neutral detergent suitable for kitchen worktops.
Rinse and dry
Remove cleaner residue with a damp cloth, then dry the surface with a paper towel or soft clean cloth.
What You Should Do and What You Should Avoid
Recommended
- Clean marks while they are still fresh.
- Use water and neutral detergent for routine cleaning.
- Use a kitchen de-greaser for food, oil and sauce marks.
- Use a descaling detergent for limescale and mineral marks.
- Use chopping boards when preparing food.
- Use heat mats, trivets or pan stands under hot items.
- Rinse and dry the surface after using cleaning products.
Avoid
- Do not place hot pans, oven trays or hot utensils directly on the worktop.
- Do not expose the surface directly to flames.
- Never use the surface for ironing.
- Do not cut directly on the quartz surface.
- Do not jump, sit or stand on the worktop.
- Do not overload the surface with weights exceeding 50 kg.
- Avoid dropping pointed or sharp objects such as knives, bottles or pans.
- Avoid prolonged use of bleach or very low pH products.
- Avoid trichloroethylene, industrial solvents, hydrofluoric acid, caustic soda and paint solvents.
Food, Oil, Grease and Sauce Marks
Quartzforms describes food residue, oil and splashes of sauce as organic substances. These should be cleaned using a kitchen de-greaser.
Apply kitchen de-greaser
Spray the de-greaser onto the mark and leave it for at least 5 minutes, or as directed by the cleaner instructions.
Wipe with a damp sponge
Use a damp sponge to remove the dissolved dirt from the surface.
Dry and repeat if needed
Dry with a paper towel and repeat the process until the area is completely clean.
Limescale, Tea, Coffee and Mineral Marks
Mineral marks can be caused by water, tea, coffee and other liquids drying on the surface and leaving calcium or mineral residues. Quartzforms recommends using a descaling detergent for this type of mark.
Apply descaling detergent
Spray the descaling product onto the mark and leave it for at least 5 minutes so the active ingredients can dissolve the mineral residue.
Wipe clean
Wipe the surface with a damp sponge.
Dry and repeat if needed
Dry with a paper towel and repeat the procedure until the area is completely clean.
Silicone, Pen and Paint Marks
Quartzforms gives separate guidance for other types of marks. Always test carefully and avoid applying strong solvents unnecessarily or over a wide area.
Specific Marks
- Silicone marks: use a silicone solvent from a hardware store, following the product instructions.
- Pen marks: Quartzforms states these can be cleaned using pure alcohol.
- Paint marks: traces of paint can be removed using nitro thinner applied to a rag.
Important Caution
- Do not pour nitro thinner directly onto the surface.
- Dampen a rag with nitro thinner and gently rub the mark instead.
- Do not use unnecessary force or abrasive tools that may affect the finish.
- Contact Finch’s before using strong products if you are unsure.
Polished Quartzforms Surfaces
For routine cleaning on polished Quartzforms surfaces, use a cloth dampened with water and neutral detergents.
For persistent stains, Quartzforms says acid-based detergents and kitchen sponges with an abrasive side may be used. However, cleaning with ethyl alcohol should be avoided on polished surfaces because it may leave stains that are difficult to remove.
Matt, Velvet, Sanded, Coated and Tatum Finishes
Quartzforms explains that opaque, velvet, tatum, sanded and coated finishes are mechanically created and can have micro-grooves or a rougher texture compared with shiny polished surfaces.
These finishes may require more attention because dirt can sit in the textured areas and become harder to remove. Coloured liquids should be removed immediately. If persistent stains occur, acid-based detergents can be used, but ethyl alcohol should be avoided because it may leave difficult-to-remove stains.
Heat Protection
Quartzforms advises protecting the surface with table mats or heat mats to avoid direct contact with saucepans or utensils that have just been removed from the oven.
Direct contact with hot objects or flames may cause indelible marks due to heating of the resin, or breakages caused by thermal shock. Never use the worktop surface for ironing.
Scratches, Chopping and Impact
Quartzforms quartz is resistant to scuffs and scratches, but chopping boards should still be used to help preserve the original appearance of the worktop.
Avoid dropping pointed or sharp objects such as knives, bottles, pans and cooking utensils, as these can cause chips that may be difficult to repair.
Weight and Unsupported Areas
Quartzforms advises not to overload work surfaces with weights exceeding 50 kg. Never jump or sit on the worktop.
Take particular care around unsupported overhangs, islands, breakfast bars and cut-out areas, as excessive weight or force can damage the worktop or surrounding installation.
