COMPAC Quartz Care & Cleaning

COMPAC Quartz worktops are durable, hygienic and low maintenance, but they still need to be cleaned correctly. This guide explains how to clean COMPAC Quartz worktops safely, which products to use, what to avoid, and the important differences COMPAC stipulates in its own care guidance.

For day-to-day use, COMPAC advises regular cleaning with a neutral cleaner, followed by rinsing with water and drying with a cloth or paper towel. The extra guidance below is written for Finch's Stone & Marble Ltd customers with COMPAC Quartz kitchen worktops, islands, utility worktops, splashbacks or bathroom vanity tops.

Use this simple routine for everyday cleaning and normal kitchen use.

Clean with neutral cleaner

Use a neutral cleaner with a soft cloth or microfibre cloth. For most everyday marks, avoid harsh products and abrasive pads.

Rinse and dry

After cleaning, rinse with clean water and dry with a cloth or paper towel to help prevent water marks and residue.

Protect from heat and cutting

Use heat mats, trivets and chopping boards. Do not put hot pans directly on the worktop or cut directly on the surface.

Important COMPAC-specific advice

COMPAC's care guidance is slightly more specific than many general quartz cleaning guides. In particular, COMPAC gives separate advice for Glace finishes, lists certain treatments for stubborn stains, and clearly warns against sealers, water repellents, gloss enhancers, high-pH cleaners, some chlorine-based cleaners and aggressive chemicals.

Do not apply sealers, waterproofing products, brighteners or gloss enhancers to COMPAC Quartz.
Do not leave standing water on the worktop for long periods, especially around sinks, draining areas, wet cloths or dish drainers.
Do not use paint strippers, caustic soda, drain unblockers, oven cleaners, toilet cleaners, furniture polish, oily soaps, hydrofluoric acid or dichloromethane.
If bleach or solvent is ever used for a difficult mark, it must be rinsed off with plenty of water and not left in contact with the surface.

Daily Cleaning

For normal daily cleaning, wipe the COMPAC Quartz surface with a soft cloth and a neutral cleaner. Rinse with clean water and dry afterwards. This helps remove cleaner residue and keeps the surface looking clean and even.

Use a neutral cleaner for everyday cleaning.
Use a soft cloth, microfibre cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water after cleaning.
Dry with a cloth or paper towel after rinsing.
Wipe spills quickly, especially coloured or acidic liquids.
Use chopping boards for food preparation.
Use trivets, heat mats or heat insulators under hot pans and trays.

Avoid

Do not use abrasive pads, wire wool or harsh scouring powders.
Do not place pans, oven trays or items straight from heat directly on the surface.
Do not cut directly on the COMPAC Quartz.
Do not use sealers, waterproofing products or gloss enhancers.
Do not use high-pH cleaners above pH 10.
Do not use caustic soda, paint strippers or drain unblockers.
Do not use products containing hydrofluoric acid or dichloromethane.

Stain Removal and Stubborn Marks

Always start with the safest method first: warm water, a neutral cleaner and a microfibre cloth. If a mark remains, COMPAC lists different treatments depending on the type of stain. Use any stronger products carefully, dilute where required, leave on only briefly, then rinse with plenty of water and dry.

Type of mark or stain	COMPAC cleaning guidance
Colourants, red wine, tomato, coffee or turmeric	Soapy bleach solution: 90% water and 10% bleach. Rinse thoroughly and do not leave sitting on the surface.
Ink, marker or paint	Alcohol or soapy bleach solution: 90% water and 10% bleach. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Oil or grease	Use a weak degreaser, then rinse with plenty of water and dry.
Shampoo, make-up or cream	Alcohol or 30% oxygenated water, used carefully and rinsed away afterwards.
Limescale	Limescale remover or vinegar. COMPAC advises leaving vinegar or a suitable anti-limescale product on for around one minute, then rinsing and drying.
Metal marks, rust, belt buckles, pan residue	COMPAC lists 10% hydrochloric acid or neutral soap. This is a strong treatment, so contact Finch's Stone & Marble Ltd before using it on an installed worktop.
Adhered household waste or residue	Use a plastic spatula, neutral cleaner and a wet cloth. Avoid metal scraping tools that could scratch the surface.
Silicone or installation residue	COMPAC advises solvent that does not contain dichloromethane, rubbed with a non-abrasive sponge. Never leave solvent on for more than one minute, then rinse and dry.

Finch's advice: For everyday customers, do not jump straight to acid, bleach or solvent-based cleaning. Try neutral cleaner first. If the mark is stubborn or you are unsure, contact Finch's Stone & Marble Ltd before using anything strong or abrasive.

Glace Finish Care

COMPAC states that Polished and Glace finishes have the same quality and chemical-physical properties, but Glace finishes can show daily use marks more easily and may need a little more attention.

If neutral cleaner is not enough on a Glace finish, COMPAC recommends using a slightly alkaline cleaning product with a microfibre cloth. A weak degreaser may be used occasionally for areas with grease build-up, but it is not recommended for daily use.

Heat, Scratches and Everyday Protection

Heat protection

Do not place hot pans, oven trays, air fryers, slow cookers or items straight from the hob or oven directly onto COMPAC Quartz. Use heat insulators, trivets, pan stands or protective boards to reduce the risk of thermal shock.

Cutting and impact protection

COMPAC Quartz is resistant, but it is not indestructible. Use chopping boards and avoid dragging heavy metal items across the surface. Take care with sharp tools, pan bases, belt buckles and other items that can leave marks.

Outdoor Use, UV and Standing Water

COMPAC advises that Technological Quartz and Obsidiana materials should not be installed outdoors or anywhere subject to intense solar radiation or UV-emitting lamps. For kitchen worktops, also avoid leaving standing water on the surface continuously, especially around sinks, dish drainers and wet cloths.
