Quick BQS Quartz Care Guide
BQS quartz worktops are a practical, low-maintenance choice for kitchens, islands, utility rooms and bathroom vanity tops. They are easy to look after when cleaned correctly, but the surface should still be protected from heat, harsh chemicals and abrasive treatment.
The guidance below is written for Finch’s Stone & Marble Ltd customers who have chosen BQS Quartz for a fitted worktop project in Wigan, Lancashire, Greater Manchester or across the North West.
Warm water, a soft cloth and a small amount of mild detergent are normally enough for everyday cleaning.
Tea, coffee, wine, oils, curry, lemon juice and vinegar should be wiped away promptly, then rinsed and dried.
Use heat mats or trivets under hot pans, oven trays, air fryers, slow cookers and other heat-producing appliances.
BQS quartz is durable, but it still needs care
Quartz is resistant to everyday kitchen use, but it is not heat proof, scratch proof, stain proof or indestructible. Good habits such as wiping spills quickly, avoiding abrasive cleaners and using heat protection will help keep your BQS quartz worktop looking its best.
How to Clean BQS Quartz Day to Day
For normal cleaning, wipe the worktop with a damp soft cloth and mild washing-up liquid. After cleaning, rinse the area with clean water and dry it with a fresh cloth. This helps prevent smears, cleaner residue and water marks, especially around sink and tap areas.
Remove crumbs and loose debris
Use a soft cloth or kitchen roll before wiping the surface, so grit or debris is not dragged across the worktop.
Clean with mild detergent
Use warm water with a small amount of mild household detergent. Avoid soaking the surface in strong cleaners.
Rinse, then dry
Remove any residue with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to leave a cleaner finish with fewer streaks.
BQS Quartz Care: Recommended and Avoid
Recommended
- Clean regularly with warm water and mild detergent.
- Use a soft cloth, microfibre cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
- Wipe up spills quickly, especially coloured or acidic liquids.
- Use chopping boards when preparing food.
- Use trivets, heat mats or pan stands for hot cookware.
- Dry around sinks and taps to help reduce limescale and water marks.
- Ask Finch’s before using stronger products if you are unsure.
Avoid
- Do not place hot pans, baking trays or air fryers directly on the quartz.
- Do not cut directly on the worktop surface.
- Avoid bleach, oven cleaners, drain cleaners and harsh chemical products.
- Do not use wire wool, abrasive pads or harsh scouring powders.
- Do not leave oils, coffee, tea, wine, curry or acidic spills sitting on the surface.
- Do not stand, sit or put excessive weight on unsupported overhangs.
- Avoid unauthorised repairs, polishing or chemical treatments.
Grease, Fingerprints and Food Residue
Most everyday marks on BQS quartz can be removed with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Greasy areas may need a second clean, followed by rinsing with clean water and drying with a soft cloth.
Avoid using strong cream cleaners or abrasive pads as a shortcut. These can leave residue, dull the finish or create visible marks over time, particularly on darker, plain or highly polished colours.
Limescale and Water Marks Around Sinks
Limescale is most common around taps, draining grooves and sink cut-outs. The simplest prevention is to wipe these areas after use and dry them regularly.
If limescale does appear, use only a quartz-safe limescale product and follow the instructions carefully. Do not leave acidic cleaners sitting on the worktop, and always rinse and dry the area afterwards.
Extra tip
Around darker colours, water marks and cleaning residue can be more noticeable. Drying the surface after cleaning usually gives a better finish than allowing it to air dry.
Heat Protection for BQS Worktops
BQS quartz worktops are suitable for normal kitchen use, but sudden or concentrated heat can damage quartz surfaces. Hot pans, roasting trays, frying pans, kettles, slow cookers and air fryers should not be placed directly onto the worktop.
Always use a trivet, heat mat or protective board. This is especially important near hobs, ovens and areas where appliances are used for long periods.
Scratches, Chopping and Impact Damage
Quartz is scratch resistant, but it is not scratch proof. Knives, metal utensils, ceramic items and grit can mark the surface if used carelessly.
Use chopping boards for food preparation and avoid dragging heavy pans, trays or appliances across the worktop. Impacts on exposed edges, corners and sink cut-outs can chip or damage any stone surface.
Stains and Strongly Coloured Spills
BQS quartz is designed to be low maintenance, but substances such as tea, coffee, red wine, turmeric, curry sauces, oils, lemon juice and vinegar can still leave marks if left on the surface.
Wipe spills quickly, clean gently with mild detergent, rinse with clean water and dry the area. If a mark remains, contact Finch’s for advice before using stronger cleaners.
