How to Care for CRL Quartz Worktops
CRL Quartz worktops are designed to be practical, durable and easy to maintain.
With simple day-to-day cleaning and a few sensible precautions, your quartz surface should stay looking beautiful for many years.
This guide explains how to clean CRL Quartz, how to deal with everyday marks, and what to avoid.
Mild soap for daily cleaning
Rinse and dry after cleaning
Use trivets for hot pans
Avoid harsh chemicals
Everyday CRL Quartz Cleaning
For routine cleaning, CRL Quartz can usually be cleaned with a damp cloth or paper towel and a small amount of mild soap.
You can also use a suitable non-acidic cleaner. Once the surface is clean, rinse it with clean water and dry it thoroughly.
Drying the surface is important, especially around sinks, taps, kettles and coffee machines where water marks and residue can build up.
A quick wipe, rinse and dry will help keep the worktop looking fresh and reduce smears.
- Wipe the surface using warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth or paper towel.
- Rinse with clean water to remove any soap or cleaner residue.
- Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth or kitchen towel.
- Repeat regularly, especially after cooking, food preparation or washing up.
Quick Care Guide
Daily cleaning
Use a damp cloth or paper towel with a small amount of mild soap. Rinse and dry the surface afterwards.
Spills
Wipe spills as soon as possible. Do not allow food, grease, gum or residue to harden on the surface.
Stubborn marks
Use a non-abrasive cleaning pad with mild soap or a suitable stone cleaner. Avoid aggressive scrubbing.
Heat protection
Do not place hot pans, skillets or roasting trays directly onto the quartz. Always use a trivet or heat pad.
Scratch protection
Quartz is highly scratch resistant, but you should still use a chopping board and avoid sharp tools directly on the surface.
Honed finishes
Honed finishes can show grease and fingerprints more readily than polished finishes, so they may need extra care.
How to Remove Stubborn Marks from CRL Quartz
For stubborn or dried-on marks, start gently. If food, gum or residue has hardened on the surface, carefully remove the excess first,
then clean the area with warm water and mild soap.
- Soften dried-on residue with warm water where possible.
- Gently remove excess residue using a plastic scraper or suitable non-scratch tool.
- Clean the area with mild soap and a non-abrasive cleaning pad.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry the surface fully with a soft cloth or paper towel.
CRL’s own care guidance recommends Bar Keepers Friend Power Cream for stain removal. Always use cleaning products carefully,
follow the product instructions and rinse the surface thoroughly afterwards.
Heat Protection: Always Use a Trivet
CRL Quartz can tolerate moderate heat for a short period of time, but hot cookware should not be placed directly onto the surface.
To protect the worktop and maintain its appearance, always use an insulator, trivet or heat pad under hot skillets, roasting pans,
oven trays, slow cookers, air fryers and other heat-producing appliances.
What to Use and What to Avoid
Recommended
- Warm water and mild soap
- Soft cloths or paper towels
- Non-abrasive cleaning pads
- Suitable non-acidic cleaners
- Specialist stone cleaner where appropriate
- Bar Keepers Friend Power Cream for suitable stain removal
- Chopping boards for food preparation
- Trivets and heat pads for hot cookware
Avoid
- Putting hot pans directly onto the quartz
- Cutting directly on the worktop
- Using knives, screwdrivers or sharp tools on the surface
- Paint removers or furniture strippers
- Nail polish remover
- Bleach or cleaners containing bleach
- Permanent markers, inks and bluing products
- Strong abrasive or highly alkaline cleaners
Hard Water Marks on CRL Quartz
Hard water can leave marks around sinks, taps and draining areas if water is allowed to sit on the surface.
The best approach is prevention: wipe spills and water marks promptly, then dry the surface with a soft cloth.
If hard water marks appear, use a pH-neutral cleaner with a soft, non-abrasive cloth. CRL’s guidance also refers to using a diluted vinegar
and water solution for hard water stains. If you do this, use it sparingly, avoid leaving it sitting on the surface, rinse thoroughly with clean water
and dry the worktop straight away.
Solvents, Chemicals and Accidental Spills
Avoid exposing CRL Quartz to strong chemicals and solvents, especially products such as paint removers, furniture strippers,
nail polish remover, bleach, cleaners containing bleach, strong abrasive cleaners and highly alkaline cleaners.
If any strong chemical or solvent comes into contact with the surface, rinse the area immediately with plenty of clean water,
then dry the worktop thoroughly. If in doubt, contact your fabricator for advice before using any specialist cleaner.
Important Advice for Honed CRL Quartz Finishes
Some CRL Quartz colours are available in a honed finish. These surfaces can be more sensitive to grease, fingerprints and everyday handling marks
than polished quartz surfaces. This does not usually mean there is a fault with the material; it is a normal characteristic of the finish.
Honed finishes may need more frequent cleaning, rinsing and drying to keep them looking their best.
